County Offers Special Passport Event

FEBRUARY 27, 2013 – The Middlesex County Clerk’s Office will be open during special weekend hours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 9 to process U.S. Passport applications. The Middlesex County Clerk’s Office is joining the U.S. Department of State in celebrating Passport Day in the USA 2013, a national passport acceptance and outreach event.

“We are pleased to offer this service for those residents who may be unable to visit our office during our regular weekday hours to have their passports processed,” said Middlesex County Clerk Elaine M. Flynn.

“I would like to thank the County Clerk for taking part in this program,” said Middlesex County Freeholder Deputy Director Ronald G. Rios.  “I am glad that we are able to offer this opportunity to our residents who, due to work or other commitments, might find it difficult to apply or renew their passports in person during the week.”

U.S. citizens must present a valid passport book when entering or re-entering the United States by air. U.S. citizens entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land borders and sea ports of entry must present a passport book, passport card, or other travel documents approved by the U.S. Government.

Applications for U.S. Passports will be accepted in the Freeholder Meeting Room (First Floor), Middlesex County Administration Building, located at 75 Bayard Street in New Brunswick.

Persons applying for a Passport must present:

The fee for an adult passport age 16 and over is $135. Payment must be made via check or money order in the amount of $110 payable to the U.S. Department of State and a separate check or money order for $25 made payable to the Middlesex County Clerk. The passport is valid for 10 years.

The fee for a child's passport (under age 16) is $105. Make check or money order in the amount of $80 payable to U.S. Department of State and a check or money order for $25 payable to the Middlesex County Clerk. The minor passport is valid for five years.

No cash will be accepted.

All applicants must appear in person. If applying for a passport for a minor under the age of 16, both parents and the minor child must be present at time of application. All applicants’ birth certificates must have parent’s names.

Processing time is approximately four to six weeks. Expedited applications take approximately three weeks to be processed and there is an additional $60 fee.
