Disposal of Bulky Waste

HOME GENERATION OF MEDICAL WASTE

Although it is technically "legal" for a home self-care generator of syringes (sharps) to place them in the garbage if properly secured, there is a much safer way to dispose of these items. Many hospitals in and around the County participate in the New Jersey Hospital Association's Safe Syringe Program. Hospitals provide sharps containers to the home generator that the generator returns to the hospital when full. Contact the hospitals listed below for further information.
Note: Under no circumstances should needles ever be put in any type of container and placed out for recycling collection . This is very hazardous to recycling center employees.

SMOKE DETECTOR DISPOSAL

Homeowners can mail smoke detectors back to the appropriate manufacturer only. All alarms/detectors are to be marked "for disposal".
