Bank robbery foiled; gunman dies from gunshot wounds
A
preliminary investigation has determined that the robber, whose identity has
yet to be determined, was pronounced dead at
The
incident began shortly before 10:08 a.m. when the gunman entered the bank. The
armored car company employee, who was in the bank, opened fire and struck the gunman. Exactly what occurred in the bank before the
shooting remains under investigation.
There
were no customers in the bank and no one other than the gunman was injured. It
was not immediately known how many bank employees were present.
After
being wounded, the gunman ran from the bank into a neighboring supermarket and
fled through a rear entrance, where he was confronted by three

three officers were in uniform, but two were off-duty and had been working at a
nearby road project when they were alerted to the robbery.
As
the officers approached the suspect, he held a gun to his head and fired a
single shot. The officers did not fire their weapons and will not be identified
at this time.
The
results of an autopsy by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office may
determine which of the gunshots was fatal. The results were not immediately available.
Police
remained at the scene and the investigation is continuing with assistance from
the FBI.
