Carteret man fatally shot

 

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Carteret Police Chief John Pieczyski today announced that a borough man was shot and killed, and a 17-year-old male was wounded outside the homicide victim’s home.

         

Devon Mbachu, 19, of Lowell Street in Carteret, was pronounced dead at 12:45 a.m. today at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway after being shot outside his home on June 22, 2010.

 

The 17-year-old male, whose identity is being withheld, was taken to University Hospital in Newark, where he was treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound and was released.

 

Detective Sgt. Raymond Novak and Detective Larissa Berrios, both of the Carteret Police Department, and Investigator Scott Crocco of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office began an investigation after police were alerted to the shooting by a 911 call at 11:52 a.m.

 

Police arrived to find the two victims outside the Lowell Street home.

 

An autopsy performed today by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Mbachu died from a gunshot wound and that the manner of death was homicide.
