Cousin charged with North Brunswick homicide

††††††††† Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Kenneth McCormick, director of the North Brunswick Police Department, announced today that police have located and charged a suspect with fatally shooting and robbing a 22-year-old township man last week.

††††††††† Curtis Jones, (DOB 2/11/84) of Roebling, was charged on May 15, 2011, with murder, armed robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon in the death on May 12, 2011, of Boniface Musei, 22, of North Brunswick.

††††††††† Jones has been identified as Museiís second cousin.

Following an intensive investigation by Detective Steven Dunkel of the North Brunswick Police Department, and Investigator Michael Daniewicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office, Jones was charged on May 15, 2011, at the Atlantic County Jail in Mays Landing, where he was being held on unrelated municipal court warrants issued in Atlantic City. He was arrested May 14, 2011 on the warrants.

Bail for Jones was set in New Brunswick at $1 million by Superior Court Judge Dennis Nieves, who said the defendant must post the full amount, and not 10 percent, before he can be released from custody. The defendant is expected to be returned to Middlesex County today. No date has been set for his court appearance at the Middlesex County Courthouse in New Brunswick.

The investigation began when a friend of Musei called police after finding the victim dead in an apartment at the Oak Leaf Village apartment complex on Oak Tree Drive in North Brunswick.

††††††††† Musei was pronounced dead at the scene, apartment I-9, shortly after he was found by the friend, who called police at 11:26 a.m.

††††††††† An autopsy by the Middlesex County Medical Examinerís Office showed the victim died from multiple gunshot wounds.

The investigation determined that Jones shot the victim and took an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Dunkel of the North Brunswick Police Department at (732) 247-0922, extension 333, or Investigator Daniewicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office at (732) 745-4018.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Jones are merely accusations and he is innocent until proven guilty.
