Edison High School teacher arrested on sex assault; endangerment charges

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Edison Police Director Brian Collier today announced the arrest of an Edison High School teacher on charges of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old female student.

Anthony Iazzetta, 26, of the Fords section of Woodbridge, was arrested at his home on Monday, June 15, 2009, and was charged with one count each of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Bail was set this morning at $75,000, with no option to post 10 percent of the amount.

An investigation by Edison Detective Sean Forker and Investigator Daniel Ruschak, of the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office, determined Iazzetta had relations with the girl in Fords on Sunday, June 14, 2009.

Police were alerted by school authorities who learned about the incident the following day.

Iazzetta taught mathematics at the high school and began working for the township last September.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Forker at (732) 390-6900, or Investigator Ruschak at (732) 745-3600.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Iazzetta are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
