Edison finance officer charged with theft

         

 

          Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan announced today that the acting chief financial officer of Edison has been arrested and charged with stealing $33,600, and attempting to steal another $52,891.88 in township funds.

 

          Frank DeRosa (DOB 5/18/47) of the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge was arrested and charged on August 11, 2011, with one count each of theft and attempted theft.

 

DeRosa was arrested and charged following an investigation by Detective Jeffrey Tierney of the Edison Police Department and Investigator Donald Heck of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

 

During the investigation, it was determined that DeRosa wrote an unauthorized check for $33,600 from a township bank account and deposited it into the account of a company associated with DeRosa.  The township’s account was frozen before the check cleared.

 

He also was charged with attempted theft for writing another unauthorized township check for $52,891.88 to the U.S. Treasury, but the check was intercepted by investigators before it was deposited.

 

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against DeRosa are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
