Edison man assaulted; bias incident report filed

 

 

          Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan, Edison Police Director Brian Collier and Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan today announced that a bias incident report was filed with the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General following the arrest of a 16-year-old male who was charged with punching a 19-year-old man.

         

The 16 year old, whose name is being withheld because of his age, faces a charge of juvenile delinquency in the aggravated assault of the township man on Saturday, September 19, 2009, in Edison.

 

While an initial investigation did not reveal evidence of a bias-related event, subsequent information obtained by members of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and Edison Police resulted in the filing of the bias incident report in accordance with guidelines established by the Attorney General’s Office.

 

The 16 year old was charged after the township man, who is Jewish, told police he was punched at 7:25 p.m. while walking on Woodbridge Avenue, near Route 1. The matter is under active investigation.
