Edison man charged in shooting


Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Anthony A. Caputo, director of the New Brunswick Police Department, announced that an Edison man was arrested today and charged with shooting and wounding a New Brunswick man on Easton Avenue last month.


Darryll Underwood (DOB 4/13/93) of Edison was charged with attempted murder, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, possession of a handgun without a permit and rioting in the shooting on September 22, 2012, of the 21-year-old New Brunswick man.


Underwood was arrested at about 3 p.m. today and was charged during an intensive investigation by Detective Kenneth Abode and Detective Raymond Quick, both of the New Brunswick Police Department.


The investigation began after police received a 911 call at 2:38 a.m. on September 22, 2012, alerting them to the shooting in front of a restaurant on Easton Avenue in New Brunswick.


Police arrived to find the victim, who was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was treated. The man, whose name is being withheld at this time, since has been released from hospital care.


Underwood remains in custody and is awaiting bail, which has not been set yet.
