Ex-teacher admits sex assault

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan announced today that a former Piscataway middle school teacher has admitted he sexually assaulted a teenage female over a nine-month period, beginning when she was 13 years old.

Marzet Farris, (DOB 7/10/42) of Metuchen, pleaded guilty on May 25, 2010, to a count of sexual assault, admitting he sexually assaulted the teenager on various occasions between September 2003, and June 2004.

Under a plea agreement negotiated with Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Nicole Albert, the defendant faces five years in prison when he is sentenced by Superior Court Judge Bradley Ferencz at the Middlesex County Courthouse on August 23, 2010.

In addition, Farris will be required to surrender his teaching certificate, must register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law, and faces parole supervision for life.

Farris, who was a shop teacher at the Conackamack Middle School in Piscataway, retired from the job after he was arrested and charged in December 2006, when the girl told her mother, who contacted police. The victim was not a student at the middle school.

The plea agreement was reached shortly before Farris’s trial was scheduled to begin before Judge Ferencz.
