Highland Park Police responded to a report of a possible child luring incident Monday, May 16, 2011, on South 8th Avenue.

A 12-year-old girl was walking home from the Highland Park Public Library when a two-tone black SUV, possibly a Pontiac Aztec, pulled up and parked on South 8th Avenue near Benner Street at about 7:45 p.m.

The driver, described as a white male in his mid 30s, had short black hair worn in a faux hawk style, brown eyes and was wearing a tan sweater vest and brown pants.

As the girl passed by the vehicle, the driver called out to her and motioned for her to get in the front seat of the vehicle. The girl then recognized the vehicle as previously being in the area of the Library near North 5th Avenue and Raritan Avenue.

The girl then ran away and did not see which direction the SUV headed.

The incident is under investigation by Highland Park Police. School officials have been notified.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Highland Park Police Detective Bureau at 732-572-3800.
