Investigation continues

††††††††† Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Thomas J. Bryan of the Edison Police Department announced today that an investigation has determined that three people were killed in a two-car crash when a teenage driver veered into on-coming traffic.

While the specific cause for the crash remains under investigation, the collision, which occurred on October 15, 2013, is being classified as a suicide-homicide.

The determination is based on information gathered by Detective Lisa Cimmino of the Edison Police Department and Investigator Jeffrey Temple of the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office.

Police were alerted to the crash on Route 27 near the Stony Road intersection in Edison at 12:32 a.m. and arrived to find the three people had been severely injured.

The driver of a 1995 Honda Civic, identified as a 15-year-old Edison boy, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld at this time.

The investigation determined that the car driven by the teenager crossed into on-coming traffic and crashed into a 2011 Nissan Altima that was driven by Mohammed Zia, 46, of Edison. Mr. Zia was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead shortly after the crash.

His passenger, Ali Behzad, 35, of Edison, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is active and continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Cimmino of the Edison Police Department at (732) 248-7529, or Investigator Temple of the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office at (732) 745-3373.
