Investigation into fatal fire continues

 

††††††††† Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Chief James Parker of the South Plainfield Police Department announced today that authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of a house fire in which five people died.

 

Investigators also are working to confirm the identities of the victims, whose bodies were recovered from the fire at a two-family home at 1407-1409 Clinton Avenue in South Plainfield.

 

One family member, an 8-year-old boy, remains hospitalized at The Burn Center at Saint Barnabas and is listed in critical condition.

 

In addition, the Middlesex County Medical Examinerís Office completed examinations of three victims today, but the results were not immediately available.

 

Post-mortem examinations of the other two victims are scheduled to be conducted on February 25, 2012.

 

The names of the victims will not be released until their identities are confirmed.

 

The investigation began when police and volunteer firefighters received a call at 3:09 a.m. on February 23, 2012, and went to the scene. Three family members were treated for injuries and the 8-year-old boy was hospitalized.
