Jeep sought

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and South Amboy Police Chief Darren LaVigne announced today that police are searching for a 2000 to 2003 Jeep Wrangler or Jeep Liberty to determine whether it was involved in the death of an 18-year-old Perth Amboy man who was struck and killed as he walked along the shoulder of Route 35 north in South Amboy nearly two weeks ago.

An investigation into the death of Sylvestre Tejada, 18, of Perth Amboy, also is attempting to ascertain whether the Jeep sustained damage to the passenger-side mirror and the front of the vehicle.

The investigation began after a state Department of Transportation maintenance crew, while spraying herbicide along the highway bridge, over Raritan Avenue, discovered the body and called police on July 28, 2011.

An autopsy completed by the Middlesex County Medical Examinerís Office determined that Mr. Tejada died from blunt force trauma as a result of being struck by a motor vehicle.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information on the incident or who has observed a 2000 to 2003 Jeep Wrangler or Jeep Liberty with front-end damage and/or damage to the passenger-side mirror, is asked to call Detective David Keegan of the South Amboy Police Department at (732) 525-5944, or Investigator Jeffrey Temple of the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office at (732) 745-3373.
