Life prison term imposed in felony murder

††††††††† Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan announced today that a Roebling, N.J. man has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for the armed robbery and fatal shooting of a North Brunswick man last year.

Curtis Jones (DOB 2/11/84) was sentenced to the term on December 19, 2012, in New Brunswick by Superior Court Judge Joseph Paone. Jones was found guilty on September 19, 2012, of murder, felony murder, armed robbery, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose and two counts of hindering his own apprehension.

A jury, sitting in New Brunswick, found Jones guilty of all six charges after deliberating for about 90 minutes.

During a trial that began before the jury on September 10, 2012, Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Linda Estremera presented evidence and testimony showing that Jones intended to rob Boniface Musei, 22, of North Brunswick, shot him twice and fled without taking any valuables.

Estremera further showed that Jones initially misled police when he provided a statement to them, but later admitted shooting the victim. Jones also made an admission to his half-brother, hours after the murder.

††††††††† Jones was charged during an intensive investigation by Detective Steven Dunkel of the North Brunswick Police Department and Investigator Michael Daniewicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office.

The investigation began when a friend of the victim called police after finding the victim dead in an apartment at the Oak Leaf Village apartment complex on Oak Tree Drive in North Brunswick.
