Little League officer charged with theft

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan announced that a former president of the North Edison Little League was charged today with stealing more than $35,000 from the organization over a period of more than three years.

Terry Taylor (DOB 5/17/56) of Edison was charged with theft, a third degree offense, following an investigation by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Taylor, who served as an official of the Little League and held various titles, including vice-president and president, was released on his own recognizance. No court dates have been set.

He was charged after Investigator Donald Heck of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that Taylor, while acting in his official capacity, obtained funds in various amounts from the Little League’s account between January 2008 and April 2011.

The investigation began after an audit showed discrepancies in the league’s account and a league official contacted the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charge against Taylor is merely an accusation and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
