Man arrested following fatal stabbing


††††††††† Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Benjamin Ruiz of the Perth Amboy Police Department announced today that a Perth Amboy man has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 37-year-old city resident.


††††††††† Dana Kearney (DOB 10/15/81) of Perth Amboy was arrested on August 18, 2013 at a home in Plainfield and was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.


Kearney was arrested and charged following the death of Christopher Sharp, 37, of Perth Amboy. The victim was pronounced dead in a house on William Street in Perth Amboy after police were called at 1:57 a.m. on August 18, 2013.


An autopsy performed by the Middlesex County Medical Examinerís Office determined the victim had been fatally stabbed.


An investigation by Detective Marcos Valera of the Perth Amboy Police Department and Investigator Jose Rodriguez of the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office led to the arrest of Kearney, who was apprehended at 7:41 p.m. on August 18, 2013.


Kearney remains in custody and is waiting for bail to be set.


The investigation is active and is continuing.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Kearney are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
