Man shot in Monroe

 

††††††††† Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Monroe Township Police Chief John J. Kraivec said police shot a man in the township today.

††††††††† The Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office immediately took control of the scene and began an investigation into the shooting of Ronald A. Richards, 69, of Toms River.

 

He was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick and is listed in stable condition.

 

††††††††† Following the shooting, Monroe Township police immediately notified the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office and the state Attorney Generalís Office, in accordance with state guidelines.

 

††††††††† The Monroe Township police preliminarily reported that information concerning Richards was received by the department at 12:12 p.m.

 

†††††††† The department further reported that Richards subsequently was found with a gun in a vehicle parked outside a home in Monroe. Police said an officer ordered Richards to put down the weapon, and fired when Richards failed to comply.

 

The officer, whose name is being withheld at this time, was not injured.
