New Brunswick man arrested and charged with sex assault

 

          Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan and Director Anthony J. Caputo of the New Brunswick Police Department today announced that a 58-year-old New Brunswick man has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman in the city.

Percy May, (DOB 11/7/50) of 55 Joyce Kilmer Ave. was arrested at approximately 4:15 a.m. today at his home and is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Facility on charges of sexual assault and criminal restraint. He is awaiting bail, which is expected to be set later today.

An investigation by Detective Ronoldy Martinez of the New Brunswick police, and Investigator James Kelly of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that Percy approached the woman yesterday morning (February 10, 2009) on Albany Street in New Brunswick.

Eventually, May took the woman to a backyard shed at his residence and sexually assaulted her. When she returned to her home, she told her father about the incident and he called police shortly after 2 p.m. yesterday.

Police later identified May as a Tier III registered sex offender, whose photo and description appears on the New Jersey Sex Offender Internet Registry website which is maintained by the New Jersey State Police at www.njsp.org/info/reg_sexoffend.html. As is the case for all criminal defendants, the charges against May are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
