New Brunswick man killed on city street

 

          Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Anthony A. Caputo, director of the New Brunswick Police Department, announced that police are actively investigating the death of a hospital worker who was fatally shot on a city street early this morning.

 

Jesse Simons, 61, of New Brunswick was pronounced dead at 2:28 a.m. at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was taken after he was shot on Suydam Street near Remsen Avenue in New Brunswick.

 

An investigation by Detective Mark Pappas of the New Brunswick Police Department and Investigator Michael Daniewicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office began after police received a 911 call at 1:56 a.m., alerting them to the shooting.

 

An autopsy performed by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Mr. Simons was the victim of a shooting and that the manner of death was a homicide.

 

Mr. Simons had been employed at the hospital as a patient escort.

 

The investigation into his death is continuing, but no arrests have been made.
