Newark man killed
Jayson Perry, 21, was pronounced dead at 1:43 a.m. at
Five other people were stabbed and one of them was
hospitalized, while another man sustained a superficial gunshot wound during
the disturbance that began shortly before 1 a.m. at the catering hall.
Police
were called to the scene at 1:04 a.m. after a number of patrons began fighting
inside the catering hall, which had been rented for a Hip-Hop performance
featuring an entertainer known as French Montana.
Between
400 and 500 tickets were sold for the show, which had not begun at the time the
disturbance began.
Scores
of customers fled to the parking lot as police were arriving amid reports of
fighting, stabbings and gunshots.

results of an autopsy performed by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner were
not immediately available, but it appears Mr. Perry was the victim of a
stabbing.
Another
man in the car is being treated at an area hospital for a stab wound and is
listed in stable condition. His identity is being withheld at this time.
