Newark man killed

 

 

          Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Chief Thomas J. Bryan of the Edison Police Department announced that authorities are actively investigating the slaying of a Newark man, who was killed early this morning when a series of fights broke out during a Hip-Hop party in Edison.

 

          Jayson Perry, 21, was pronounced dead at 1:43 a.m. at JFK Medical Center in Edison after he was apparently stabbed during the party at the Mirage, a restaurant and catering hall on Oak Tree Road in Edison.

 

          Five other people were stabbed and one of them was hospitalized, while another man sustained a superficial gunshot wound during the disturbance that began shortly before 1 a.m. at the catering hall.

 

Police were called to the scene at 1:04 a.m. after a number of patrons began fighting inside the catering hall, which had been rented for a Hip-Hop performance featuring an entertainer known as French Montana.

 

Between 400 and 500 tickets were sold for the show, which had not begun at the time the disturbance began.

 

Scores of customers fled to the parking lot as police were arriving amid reports of fighting, stabbings and gunshots.

 

Police from Woodbridge, South Plainfield and Piscataway were dispatched to assist Edison police with crowd control.

 

During the fracas, a group of men in a car drove up to police in the parking lot to report two of the occupants of the vehicle had been stabbed. Police escorted the car to JFK Medical Center, where Mr. Perry was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

 

The results of an autopsy performed by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner were not immediately available, but it appears Mr. Perry was the victim of a stabbing.

 

Another man in the car is being treated at an area hospital for a stab wound and is listed in stable condition. His identity is being withheld at this time.
