Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Chief Benjamin Ruiz of the Perth Amboy Police Department announced that a 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged with causing a motor vehicle crash that killed two of his passengers this morning.
Ricky A. Olivares (DOB 12/14/90) of Perth Amboy was charged with two counts of aggravated manslaughter after he lost control of his car and crashed on Industrial Road in Perth Amboy shortly before 4:24 a.m.
Police were alerted to the crash by a passerby and arrived to find the two passengers, who were pronounced dead at the scene at 5:48 a.m. They were identified as Johanna Cruz, 28, who was a front-seat passenger, and the defendantís brother, Aramis Olivares, 20. He was riding in the rear of the car.

The driver also was taken to the hospital and was released after he was treated for injuries.
He remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail, which was set by Superior Court Judge Dennis Nieves.
The charges were filed during an investigation by Detective Ralph Pineiro of the Perth Amboy Police Department and Investigator Scott Crocco of the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office.
The investigation showed Olivares was driving a 2001 Acura on Industrial Road near the Florida Grove Road intersection, lost control of the vehicle, hit a utility pole, three trees and a chain-link fence.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, Olivares is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
