Police, educators attend seminar

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan announced today that 180 people, including law enforcement officers, educators, nurses and child study experts will attend a day-long seminar offering training sessions on gang activity, drug trends, cyber bullying, and methods for dealing with substance abuse.

The Ninth Annual Middlesex County Prevention Education Summit will be held on June 10, 2011, from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the Middlesex County Fire Academy in Sayreville. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

Presentations will be offered by specialists who will cover a number

of topics aimed at providing practical information on drugs, rehabilitation, gangs and cyber bullying.

Among speakers is Investigator John Marotta of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, who will discuss ‘’Gangs in New Jersey.’’ Investigator Suzanne Kowalski and Agency Aide Nicole Ducca, also of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, will offer a session entitled: ‘’Sticks & Stones/Cyber bullying.’’

In addition, Jackie Zaremba, a doctorate nurse practitioner from Princeton House Behavioral House, a rehabilitation and treatment facility, will discuss ‘’Treatment Trends.’’

Special Agent Douglas Collier of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration – New Jersey Division, will offer a workshop on ‘’Drug Trends,’’ and will identify the kinds of illicit drugs people are using.

In addition to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, the program is being sponsored by the National Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependency of Middlesex County Inc., Princeton House, the DEA, the Rutgers University Police Department and Jannarone Consulting Services, a Wall Township firm that offers consultation on drugs and alcohol abuse.
