Rutgers student struck and killed on Route 18

 

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and New Brunswick Police Director Peter Mangarella announced that a 21-year old Rutgers University student was killed today when she was struck by a pickup truck while crossing Route 18 at George Street in New Brunswick.

 

The female student was riding her bicycle on George Street and was crossing Route 18 in New Brunswick when she was struck by a 2005 Ford pickup truck that was being driven by Roger Hode, 40, of South River.

 

The identity of the student is being withheld, pending notification of her next of kin.

 

An investigation by Patrolman Mark Smith of the New Brunswick Police Department and Investigator Sean O’Lone of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that the student was struck at 11:08 a.m. by the pickup truck, which was heading north on Route 18 through the intersection.

 

The student was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

No charges have been filed, but an investigation is continuing.
