School guard charged with sexual contact; child
endangerment

County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and New Brunswick Police Director Anthony A.
Caputo today announced the arrest of a city elementary school security guard on
charges of fondling and kissing a 13-year-old female student.
Elpidio
Cruz, (DOB 1/19/84) of 134 Remsen Avenue, Apartment B, New Brunswick, was
arrested September 8, 2009, and was charged with a second degree count of
endangering the welfare of a child, and a third degree count of aggravated
criminal sexual contact.
Cruz,
who has been employed by the New Brunswick Board of Education since September
20, 2005, was suspended without pay from his job at
An
investigation by Detective Daniel Dominguez, of the New Brunswick Police
Department, and Investigator Michael Daniewicz and Investigator Jeffrey
Maroccia, both of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, determined that
Cruz had developed a friendship with the student when she attended Roosevelt
school, and engaged in improper conduct with her at his home on a number of
occasions between May 2009, and September 8, 2009.

is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Cruz are merely
accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
