School guard charged with sexual contact; child endangerment

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and New Brunswick Police Director Anthony A. Caputo today announced the arrest of a city elementary school security guard on charges of fondling and kissing a 13-year-old female student.

Elpidio Cruz, (DOB 1/19/84) of 134 Remsen Avenue, Apartment B, New Brunswick, was arrested September 8, 2009, and was charged with a second degree count of endangering the welfare of a child, and a third degree count of aggravated criminal sexual contact.

Cruz, who has been employed by the New Brunswick Board of Education since September 20, 2005, was suspended without pay from his job at Roosevelt Elementary School on Livingston Avenue in New Brunswick.

An investigation by Detective Daniel Dominguez, of the New Brunswick Police Department, and Investigator Michael Daniewicz and Investigator Jeffrey Maroccia, both of the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office, determined that Cruz had developed a friendship with the student when she attended Roosevelt school, and engaged in improper conduct with her at his home on a number of occasions between May 2009, and September 8, 2009.

Anyone with information on Cruz is asked to call Detective Dominguez at (732) 745-5200, or Investigator Daniewicz or Investigator Maroccia at (732) 745-3600.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Cruz are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
