School teacher arrested on sex assault, child endangerment charges

 

 

          Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Woodbridge Police Chief William Trenery today announced the arrest of an eighth grade English teacher on charges of having sexual relations with a 14-year-old female student three years ago.

 

          James I. Clancy, (DOB 2/2/74) of 39 Crampton Avenue, Woodbridge, was arrested at Woodbridge Police Headquarters on November 11, 2009, and was charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of the child.

 

          Clancy, who has been an English teacher at Iselin Middle School for the past seven years, was suspended following his arrest.

 

          He was arrested and charged after an investigation by Investigator James Kelly of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and Detective Robert Ptaszynski of the Woodbridge Police Department determined that Clancy had relations with the student in Edison in June 2006.

 

          He was charged with child endangerment for making lewd comments and sending lewd e-mails to the student in Woodbridge in June 2006.

 

          The investigation began a few days ago, after the matter came to the attention of law enforcement.

          As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Clancy are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
