Somerset men plead guilty following shoot-out in New
Brunswick
Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan announced
today that three
The men, all residents of the
Ibrahim
Kallon (DOB 10/2/86) pleaded guilty to a count of carjacking and using a
juvenile to commit a criminal offense. He faces a sentence of six years in a
Quaid
King, (DOB 12/31/90) pleaded guilty to a count of receiving stolen property and
faces a prison term of four years. He will be sentenced by Judge Toto on December
7, 2009. King was a juvenile at the time of the shooting, but later was waived
up to Superior Court to be tried as an adult.
Joseph
Callahan (DOB 10/19/84) pleaded guilty to possession of a handgun and faces a
prison term of eight years with no parole for at least four years. He also will
be sentenced by Judge Toto on December 7, 2009.

one was injured during the incident in which multiple shots were fired at 12:45
p.m.
King
and Kallon were driving on

in the cars stopped their vehicles at the intersection, got out, and began
firing.
Callahan
and his passengers ran from the scene and called police, while Kallon got into Callahan’s
Escort and drove away.
About
15 minutes after the shooting, Officer Sammy Hernandez of the Franklin Township
Police Department apprehended Kallon and King. New Brunswick police
subsequently arrested and charged Callahan and one of his passengers, Shon
Callahan, (DOB 10/30/88) a New Brunswick
resident who was identified as the defendant’s cousin.
Shon
Callahan previously pleaded guilty to a count of hindering his apprehension by
lying to police when he told them no one in their car had a gun. He is facing a
probationary term.
In a
separate incident, Joseph Callahan also pleaded guilty on September 30, 2009, to
possession of a handgun and possession of a controlled dangerous substance within
1,000 feet of a school in
He
was arrested and charged by New Brunswick Lt. Paul Schuster of the New
Brunswick Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit.
Under
the terms of his plea agreement, Callahan will be sentenced to an eight-year
term with no parole for four years. The term will be served concurrently with
the term he faces for his involvement in the shooting.
