South Brunswick man sentenced for killing wife

††††††††† Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey announced today that a South Brunswick man has been sentenced to serve 12 years in a New Jersey state prison after pleading guilty to a charge of running down his wife with his van.

††††††††† Samander Dabas (DOB 1/3/67) also was ordered to serve 85 percent of the term before he can be eligible for parole in the death on August 24, 2004 of Renu Dabas, 20.

The sentence was imposed in New Brunswick by Superior Court Judge Dennis Nieves after the defendant pleaded guilty to a count of aggravated manslaughter. The sentence was imposed immediately after the guilty plea was entered on January 17, 2014.

The plea agreement was reached with Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Sheree Pitchford.

As part of the sentence, the defendant will be placed on parole supervision for five years following his release from custody.

He was sentenced after he admitted his role in the death of his wife, who was killed as she ran from the van at a shopping mall in South Brunswick.

The defendant was intoxicated at the time he struck and killed his wife.
