State Police resources are tapped in on-going
investigation
Since the last public update of October 8, 2011, by the Middlesex
County Prosecutor’s Office into the status of the investigation of the shooting
of
Investigators from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office are
continuing in their efforts to identify and interview anyone who may have
knowledge of the shooting on September 22, 2011. Investigators are reviewing
the statements already obtained from 38 witnesses and will be re-questioning at
least some of them. In addition, video and audio tapes from police vehicles
have been secured.
As was previously reported, evidence seized from the scene by the
Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office investigators has been submitted to the
New Jersey State Police Office of Forensic Science for testing and analysis.
Additionally, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office has sought
the assistance of the New Jersey State Police Forensic Investigation Bureau, which
has been asked to independently review the events that occurred in the alley
where the shooting occurred.
To assist in our efforts to forensically re-construct and diagram
the scene, the New Jersey State Police Forensic Investigation Bureau has taken
laser measurements and the New Jersey State Police Aviation Bureau has assisted
the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Crime Scene Response Unit in taking aerial
photographs.
The next steps in the procedure will be to ensure that all
witnesses have been identified and their statements taken and reviewed; that medical records and the results of all scientific
testing have been received, and the video and audio tapes from the police
vehicles have been reviewed and analyzed.
Once those tasks are completed, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s
Office will make a final determination on whether to present the matter to a

and in accordance with the Attorney General’s guidelines on shootings involving
police. Once that decision is made, it will be discussed first with the
Deloatch family and then will be made public.
