Teenager killed, two others injured in Woodbridge crash

††††††††† Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Woodbridge Police Chief William Trenery today announced that a 16-year-old girl was killed and two others were injured in a single-car crash in Woodbridge on May 14, 2009.

Jennifer Metzger, of the Colonia section of Woodbridge, was pronounced dead at 9:17 p.m. at the scene of the crash on Route 9 north, near the Main Street overpass in Woodbridge.

The driver of the vehicle, Allen McGovern, (DOB 11/21/90) of Rahway, and another passenger, identified as a 16-year-old girl, were injured and were flown by helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. McGovern is listed in stable condition and the 16-year-old passenger is listed in critical condition.

A preliminary investigation by the Woodbridge Police and the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office determined that McGovern, who was driving north on the highway in a 1997 Ford Explorer, apparently lost control of his vehicle, crashed into a guardrail and struck a tree, shortly before 8:46 p.m.

The preliminary investigation also determined that neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the crash, but police are awaiting the results of additional tests. No charges have been filed and no summonses have been issued.

Since the crash, police have been searching for a light-colored mini-van, driven by someone who may have additional information about the incident.

That motorist, as well as anyone else with information, is asked to contact Officer Joseph Angelo, of the Woodbridge Police Department, at (732) 634-7700, or Investigator Jeffrey Temple, of the Middlesex County Prosecutorís Office, at (732) 745-3373.
