Three charged in Sayreville homicide

††††††††††† Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Chief John Zebrowski of the Sayreville Police Department announced today that three men have been charged in the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old South Amboy man who was killed last week during a dispute at a house party in Sayreville.

††††††††††† Samuel Frejuste (DOB 12/31/91) of Sayreville, Chad Vaughn (DOB 9/24/92) of South Amboy, and Emery Baskerville (DOB 7/7/92) were charged on July 27, 2012, with conspiring to murder Randal Teron Smith, 20, of South Amboy.

††††††††††† The three also have been charged with hindering their apprehension by lying to police during the investigation into the shooting of the victim, who was killed on July 21, 2012.

††††††††††† The charges were filed after an investigation by Detective Richard Bellotti of the Sayreville Police Department and Investigator Adrian Villegas of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office determined that the three men were riding in a sport utility vehicle, shot the victim, and fled.

††††††††††† Vaughn was arrested on July 23, 2012, on the hindering charge and remains in custody at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick in lieu of $100,000 bail.

††††††††††† Baskerville was arrested on July 24, 2012, and was charged with hindering, but was released from custody after he posted $100,000 bail. Baskerville, who returned to duty in the Navy, was being held today after his superiors were notified that he has been charged with murder conspiracy.

††††††††††† Frejuste was arrested July 27, 2012, at his home in Sayreville and was charged with hindering and murder conspiracy. He also is being held on $100,000 bail.

††††††††††† Bail is expected to be increased with the filing of the murder conspiracy charge, but the amount has not yet been determined.

††††††††††† The investigation began after police received a call at 2:23 a.m. on July 21, 2012, alerting them to the shooting during the party at 11 Greenhill Avenue in Sayreville.

††††††††††† When police arrived, the victim was found on a neighbor's lawn. He was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead at 3:28 a.m.

††††††††††† More than 50 people were attending the house party when the dispute involving the victim began. People at the party began fleeing when an undisclosed number of shots were fired. The victim was outside the house when he was shot.

††††††††††† The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator Villegas of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office at (732) 745-3300, or Detective Bellotti of the Sayreville Police Department at (732) 525-5451.

††††††††††† As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Frejuste, Vaughn and Baskerville are merely accusations and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
