Woman dies from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Acting Chief James Parker of the South Plainfield Police Department announced today that a 24-year-old woman died after apparently shooting herself in a friend’s car.

The woman, whose identity is being withheld, was pronounced dead at 12:42 p.m. on August 22, 2010, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

An investigation by the South Plainfield Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined the woman was riding in her friend’s car on Sampton Avenue in the borough when she apparently shot herself at 11:52 a.m.

A preliminary investigation also determined that it appeared that no foul play was involved.

An autopsy is scheduled to be performed today, but the results are not immediately available.
