Women gather for law enforcement conference
Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan today announced
that about 200 women are expected to attend a day-long conference aimed at
helping women develop satisfying and successful careers in law enforcement.

New Jersey Women in Law Enforcement Conference will be held tomorrow, June 3,
2009, at
The program
will bring together women in law enforcement from federal, state, county, and
local agencies to discuss important ways to shape their careers.
Among
invited guest speakers is state Sen. Barbara Buono, (D-Middlesex) who will discuss
legislation and stumbling blocks she has encountered during her political
career. Her address is entitled: ‘’A View from the Rotunda: Women in
Government.’’
‘’Today Show’’ morning program television personality
Al Roker will talk about ‘’Media Issues and Law Enforcement,’’ and will offer
insights into his career, and the obstacles he faced as an African-American, to
become a successful weatherman and television producer.
In
addition, Dr. Teena Cahill, author of ‘’The Cahill Factor: Turning Adversity into
Advantage,’’ will discuss the importance and need for women in leadership
roles.
Also
speaking will be a woman who will share her harrowing experience as the
survivor of a kidnapping and sexual assault.
The
program is being made possible through the efforts of the MORE (Middlesex
Out-Reach and Education) Unit, created by Prosecutor Kaplan to bring a variety
of educational and safety programs to the community.
