The Water Pollution Control Program is responsible for the completion of the following water pollution activities: the inspection of new physical cross connections; surface water monitoring/sampling; water quality testing, including testing for radium 226 and 228; investigations of selected New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Hotline cases; certification of new wells; closure of abandoned wells; overseeing the various phases of individual subsurface sewage disposal installations; inspections and sampling of non-community water sources; monitoring of underground storage tanks greater than 2,000 gallons in capacity; the NJDEP Cooperative Coastal Monitoring program to assess water quality in recreational waters; and the utilization of GIS/GPS equipment for locating and recording potential contamination source points which may have a profound impact on ground water quality.
